Gas cap made my car idle bad????

Long story. Did the stage 1 upgrade and remanufactured injectors because I have an 03 and car never idled very good. Took to local mechanic and he scanned it and could not find any codes and confused by the idle also. Put brand new injectors in idle not any better. Now I knew for awhile I needed a new locking gas cap because it never felt like it seated right. Got gas one day and tired from working 7 days a week drove off without my gas cap. After realizing I have no cap I thought my car might run even worse or kick out a code. Didn't notice a difference without the cap. Got Mopar locking cap and seated much better. Car has an almost buttery idle and I sometimes think it's not even running. Is this possible???? I know with the newer cars the cap is part of the whole emission systems.

The gas cap is part of your fuel system and in as much, must be in place and functioning.

Your locking gas cap you referred to may not have been on the car originally. It might a been after market and as such it wasn't original equipment.

The days of siphoning gas are behind me as today's additives have ruined the flavor. Long gone are the days when I could determine brand and octane from the flavor! I was never an habitual siphoner but merely selective

If you install a new original or as original gas cap, at least that part of your idle problem will be eliminated as a cause.

For me, many times an odd code read has been resolved by replacing a bad gas cap. Lots a luck.

My PT didn't like the Stant brand locking gas cap from O'Reilly's, had to buy the MOPAR locking cap, and all is fine.
