Default Liftgate

Would like to know if anyone has an idea for me what my problem could be. On my '05 Touring last week the tailgate started acting a little quirky. When I go out for the first time in the morning to drive the car the light on the dash for the liftgate stays on. Also, the dome light stays on for the whole time I drive the car that way (I ended up pulling the bulb for now). Also, whenever I come to a stop, the chime will ding once as I take off. Does that after every stop.

If I get out and open up the liftgate and shut it, it shuts tightly like it should and no light on the dash and no dinging, but it won't stay that way. Usually the liftgate will then go back to malfunctioning as I described. Some days it may stay 100% latched for the rest of the day while doing errands, but by the next morning it's back to being not fully secured in the shut position and the light is back on on the dash. I have looked closely (I thought) at all the latches and cannot find anything wrong just by looking. All seems tight, too. I was wondering if anyone may have an idea before I spend money to take it in to get diagnosed. Thanks in advance.

I'd get a can of CRC Electrical Contact Cleaner and remove the plug from the electrical pig tail and clean it real well. I'd also make sure that the latch is tight. Don't just look at the screws, take a wrench or screwdriver and physically tighten every one of them.

If mine dings and I look down to see the liftgate icon lit up, I stop the car get out and slam the liftgate down securely and it usually takes care of the icon and ding.

That's what I have done several times and all is good - for a while. Usually the next morning it's back, the icon and ding are back - so frustrating.

Intermittent problem -> check for a bad ground.

just clean and ensure firm connection of ground. Also check to see the part that scenes the door is closed is working properly and correctly inline with the door to read open/closed operation.
