A/C compressor test?

Took '05 vert in for general tune and checkup (bought @70,000 mi, no history). When I bought it in Sept. it had cold A/C. I don't use much cause I've got top down mostly. A couple weeks ago turned on A/C ... nada, so I told the shop check and refrigerant if need.

They say no leaks, pressure up, must need a new compressor. How do I determine if that is it, or something else?

Bet they gave you a good price on a new compressor plus recharge, new inline filter and labor. Try another place. Most decent places will give a free check and you don't have to buy anything. Could be just the high pressure switch (down on top of the compressor). Low pressure switch won't stop the A/C from working. that will just make everything freeze up.
