Default Rear Hatch Lock

I have a 2005 PT Cruiser. The electric lock isn't function correctly. My question is, can the power to the electric switch be terminated and just unlock the rear hatch with the key or does it have to be replaced. Do you have to replace the complete locking assembly or is there a selinoid that came be replaced. I'm looking for the most reasonable way of repairing this. This car has become a money pit. I like it but it's costing a fortune to keep in running.

Thanks, Ken Urschel Rochester, IN

If you pull off the hatch plastic, there is a plug that you can unhook that leads to the solenoid.
You can also bypass the handle by adding a push button switch, that's if the touch pad is bad. If not you'll have to replace the solenoid itself.

I would not want to use only the key to open the hatch all the time . Try it sometime and you will understand.

Which reminds me Dwayne aka Bubba_1952 thanks again the complete latch with solenoid assembly you sent check out 100%

If you have a hatch with mechanical release (center of wing badge lifts up) then yes, as long as you can lock and unlock the rear hatch with your key, you can disconnect the lock-unlock motor after removing the interior trim piece.

If your 2005 has an electrical touch pad release, I know nothing.
