Advise on replacement seat upholstery sources

It might be my only option. Realizing that SOOO BIG's upholstery is ten years old but in very good shape except the passenger seat bottom I'm still looking for the cheaper repair of finding a decent matching.... leather Taupe/Pearl Beige seat bottom.... good enough to use as an upgrade.... That request is still out there to the Forum, relative to my search for a replacement front seat bottom.

If that option isn't forthcoming I'd like to find out if full replacement upholstery (not seat covers) are still available for the 2005 PT? Possible something similar or other suggestions.

The photos are from two years ago. All except the passenger seat bottom are still in as good a shape before.

Mr Mike's used to be the best but sadly it doesn't look like he does anything for the PT Cruiser anymore.

I walked our Pull N-Pay today without success in finding a matching front seat bottom for SOOO BIG. When they found out why I was there there was "no charge" for roaming around!

They had about a dozen PT's there, some with nice enough cloth interiors but SOOO BIG doesn't want that and neither do I. That's a lot of changing and a lot of bucks! I did figure out how to remove the seat bottom.There's four small headed bolts, two on the side towards the front, two on the back. Just tucked under the seat upholstery but it's notched a bit to get at them. . (see Photos of those bolts and his good seat) When the bolts are removed the seat bottom comes right out. You can just tuck it right under your arm! A trip to the yard is always at least a learning experience! If any PT friend roaming a yard finds a seat bottom for SOOO BIG please snatch it up. I'll compensate you for your kindness. It's a 2005 Taupe/Pearl Beige leather front seat bottom that SOOO BIG needs to finish off his outfit! He feels necked with out! Katzkin makes replacements for our car and you can customize them however you like with multiple coloured leather, piping, and stitching. They are not cheap, but beautiful. I had seen a PT with Katzkin seats and it was beautiful.

Price, I've looked at over 20 PT's in the past few days while visiting 3 different junkyards and haven't seen even one with your color interior. Was it an exclusive for 2005 only?

Chuzz, Thanks for keeping an eye peeled. Of course there's a finder's fee if one is found! I roamed one big Pull-N-Pay yard yesterday. It was fun, but no luck! If your ever roaming yards half way between Ormond Beach and the other side of the world where your from, PM me and SOOO BIG and I'll meet you with my roaming shoes on.

On my 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER Build Sheet for SOOO BIG, the seats, colors and codes are referred to in four places. *DL Prem Leather Trimmed Bucket Seats,... CAES Rear 65/35 Fold/Tumble/Remvble Seat,... CDWS Frt Pass Forward Fold Flat Seat,... -FL Taupe/Pearl Beige and CDZP Premium Two-Tone Accents. If it is a one year item that might be the reason they're hard to find. I've not found a front seat bottom yet. Either one will do. Driver's side or passenger's side. I'm sure one of our PT experts can advise just what years had this seat or is it indeed unique to 2005. I'm pinning my hopes on a lot of 2005's being sold. I can't see going the expense of a full set of replacements but I can afford the cost of a replacement front seat bottom that matches as long as it's in half decent shape.

After the fact I found out the leather can be restored. I've seen some amazing examples. even bad wear lines, creases, fading, stains, loose fit and cracks. We have an expert right down in Port Orange who does leather repair and restoration. i wish that been my first choice.

I've seen other years with a suede inserts. I found out the 2002 had a Taupe/Taupe option. I can only keep on looking and hope some PTer somewhere in the USA takes an interest, and spotting one snatches it up for me. It's small enough to tuck under your arm. Thanks! Happy Ptin', ptprice

Humm, guess I just got lucky, when I bought my PT Conv a year ago the leather drivers seat was worn and torn.

I just took it to a local auto upholstery shop and they had the replacement material in stock. They removed, repaired and rebuilt the seat bottom while I waited.

Also noted while I walked around the shop they were also repairing another PT Conv seat for someone else as well.

Owner of the shop also said he had a couple replacement PT conv tops in stock.

Could you check with the guy and see if he has some CDEP Taupe/Pearl Beige and if so would he mind parting with some that I could by from him? I'd have to replace all the Taupe and all the Pearl Beige on this front seat bottom. But anything worth doing is worth doing right!

The Taupe is the grey vinyl surround pieces and the Pearl Beige is the leather inserts.

With the proper material, COLOR, GRAIN AND FINISH I can repair SOOO BIG's seat. The Pearl Beige is a smooth finish and the Taupe has a distinctive light grain to it. Although Chrysler doesn't stock the two materials any more or supply the replacement upholstery to recover the seat, I'm sure there are hundreds of upholsters that still have the material in their stashes.
I'd repair it myself/ Remove the old upholstery, use the old pieces as patterns and make myself new upholstery for that front seat bottom. It'd be great to have extras for future repairs. This might be a good solution for me. I've done a lot of my own upholstery work during the restoring process. It's fun. I'll just have to dust off the old Singer!

For reference, attached is a copy of SOOO BIG's build sheet and a photo of the drivers seat for color reference. I just used saddle soap on that seat this afternoon and it's been remarkably tighten up. The seats are referred to many times on this page along with SOOO BIG's vin number. With a photo of the seat your guy may be able to make a match. Please PM me either way. What a neat solution!
