Default Starter????

My 02 PT would not start so we thought it was the battery. bought a new battery but car still will not start but all the lights work. Someone told me it might be my starter. Does that sound right? I was thinking of selling her so maybe that's my sign to move on to a bigger family car

A starter will run you about $100 for a remanufactured one. Before changing out the starter check the connections. Does it turn at all? if not it may be in the ignition switch. If you remove the starter auto parts places will check them for free.

If you tap on the starter while having someone turn the key it may start, if its the starter. If it starts you'll know what to change.
Use a piece of wood to tap on the metal part on the end of the starter, not the plastic.

I would suggest taking a volt meter and post what the battery voltage goes down to when you are trying to start it.

Also check to see if you have voltage going to the starter from the ignition switch when you are trying to start it.

Post what you find out.

From what I read, the problem could be as simple as a fuse, but impossible to diagnose the problem with so little information.

Will not start but does crank?
Does not crank at all?
Cranks, tries to catch and stalls?

when you turn the key, you hear a click but it doesn't start. But all the lights and everything else comes on. Hubs tried to hit it like someone mentioned above but it didn't work

Hitting the started didn't work- you will have Follow
ptcruisersteve Obsessed Cruiser suggestions or find some one that can use a Voltage meter to check for a good ground and 12 volts at the starter.
You can try jumping the starter with another heavy cable directly to the starter from the battery.

If it "clicks", it could be a bad starter or a bad connection. If the sound is a solid "clunk", I would lean more toward the starter. Kinda hard to diagnose from this keyboard.
