Question Need a recommendation to add Keyless Entry to Gen 2 PT

Hi! First post to this forum!
I am hoping that someone can provide a recommendation and/or details on adding ONLY a keyless entry to my 2006 PT cruiser.

I have read thru a lot of posts regarding this and have never found anything pertaining to a recommendation or instructions on how to do it.

I have learned that since it is a Gen 2, the RKE module is now combined with the SKIM to create the SKREEM. Thus if you don't have keyless entry then it cannot be programmed as confirmed by the dealers that I called.

Please, any insight would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum

What trim level of '06 do you have as Remote Keyless/Illuminated Entry is standard on all trim levels except the base model. Sounds like you would need to add the correct SKREEM and then have a dealer program the feature.

This is what it says in the Service Manual:

Just reading this from manual, to me it appears that the feature is already in the SKREEM, it just needs to be programmed by a dealership. You might try contacting a different dealership as the one you tried may either not know how to do it, or don't really want to do it.

Please go to the Welcome New PT Cruiser Members section and introduce yourself and tell us about your PT.

Welcome to the forum from Texas. I have an 01, meaning that I don't have an answer for your question.

Thanks for the "welcomes!"

It is a base model.
IF I replace the SKREEM - does it need to be programmed from the dealer to allow the existing package (base) items to work or only for RKE?

I called the only 2 dealers in town and they said that the option is not available due to my VIN. I did mention programming but the just re-quoted the line - "the VIN says the option is not available..."

BAH!

why cant you just source a keyless entry module from the wreckers, and also install the mopar oem remote keyless module package ?

This is some additional info from the Service Manual:

The '06 does not have TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor), so if a new SKREEM is installed, it must be programmed to to turn off the TPM which according to the above instructions, is set to ON by default. So some programming must be done to the SKREEM.

Just because the dealership told you it wasn't available on your PT based on the VIN, it's not because the feature is not activated, but I have to think it's still embedded in there and just needs to be turned on. I would so love to get access to a StarSCAN and hook it up to my PT just to go through all the menus to see what is in there.

Do your keys look like this?

And the Lock/Unlock buttons don't do anything? Or are your keys completely different?

Has anyone installed an aftermarket keyless entry? The gen 2's have a single wire lock/unlock and I could sure use some guidance on system selection and installation direction.

You would have to get something that is CANbus compatible, you can't just go splicing anything into the electrical system. You might call around at some stereo/alarm shops.
