Use lighter fluid (probably the easiest to find locally and let it dwell on the windshield for a few minutes to break the bond and rinse/wash throughly), Barkeeper's Friend, or Naphtha (a solvent, also can be added to your gas as a fuel injector/carburetor cleaner). The Bon Ami everybody is talking about using on your windshield/glass is the original formula, Bon Ami Cleaning Cake or Cleaning Powder, http://www.bonami.com/Products.asp?D...leaning+Powder , usually available/seen online but not in local stores.

Just FYI: Jngrbrdman's way of applying Rain-X:
Quote:
quote:The easiest way to keep stuff (Rain-X) like that from streaking is to apply it before you wash your car. Wash the whole car and then wash your glass at the very end. If you do it that way then you won't have any streaking or glare at all. If you wash your car first and then apply it (Rain-X), get ready for streaks.

I can't afford to just replace the windshield right now since hubby lost his job a month ago.

Thanks Hopefully I'll have a clean windshield again soon.[8D]

Yep, I got a stone chip last week. Paid $35- to Glass Rx to put epoxy in it, then as I was paying, they said I could have gotten a new windshield from my insurance.

I'm wondering if the epoxy will cause the windshield wipers to bump and streak?

I had it done on my Dakota, didn't seem to bother at all. I also was tols that IF I wasn't satified with the "FIX" I could have a new windshield installed. I didn't take them up on the offer tho.

I put Rain-X on my windshield, and after using the washer fluid and it's first rain storm I was really regretting it. It was streaking all over the place, and there was some sort of build-up where the wiper blade stopped.

Then after the second storm, I noticed the streaks were gone, and it started doing it's job.

It's only been two weeks, so the jury is still out, but I wouldn't jump to any conclusions too soon if you see streaking at first.

Still wondering why people don't like it. It saves wiper usage and it's cool watch.

Guess there's no reason not to use it.

Believe there are other products that are superior to Rain-X, like Aquapel (usually sold only to professionals and in cases, but can be purchased individually on eBay, Ioffer.com, Onsale.com, bidway.com, etc.) or Diamondite ($21.95, can purchase direct). Clearkote's Quik Shine is a quick detailer but is also excellent for use on windshields and trim (no streaks or tracer marks from the wiper blades). Some use a synthetic polish/wax on their windshields, but I am not a fan of doing that.

The main problems with Rain-X is 2-fold, 1 it is silicone based and 2 it tends to fog/haze in humid conditions.

Wow, I've been using Rain-X, for at least 15 years. I have used it on all my cars! I love the stuff an would not have a vehicle without it!
Well, there you go my 2 cents worth...
