Default RADIATOR FAN WONT SPIN !!!

Hey guys i have a 2001 pt cruiser base model, recently my radiator fan stopped working, i can spin it if i put my hand in there but i wont turn on on its own. i saw that the fan has two relays a rectangular one and a square one, i changed the rectangular one but not the square one, am i wasting my time trying the relays ? is it a blown motor or could it be the other relay ? please help

Need more information.

Is your engine light on? If so do you know what the engine trouble codes are?

Does the radiator fan come on if you turn on the A/C?

Welcome to the forum. Unplug your wiring connector to the fan and direct wire it to the fan for a couple of seconds to test it. If it runs, the problem is a fuse, relay or wiring. If it doesn't run, you need to replace the fan.

The radiator fans are notorious for burning out at least two of the "brushes" in the fan motor. Very little problems with the relays. If you look at the picture of the interior of the fan motor, you'll see the 4 "brushes" (rectangle blocks) that run the 2 fan speeds. Two of them you can see are very short and don't reach the center armature to give power for the fan to spin.

A new fan with lifetime warranty runs about $100 at most auto stores. If you have any skills yourself, it takes about 1 1/2 hours to replace the entire fan and housing. Here's a write-up I did for a 2001 PT on replacing the radiator fan.

Removing the fan and housing 01-05 PT
