Default Gen II Cruiser with no door spears

I've seen a Cruiser around here that has no door spears on it. Was this a 'delete' option at one time? I can't imagine someone just taking them off, but I suppose it's possible.

I have seen on overseas photos, Cruisers with no door spears. There is just the depression in the doors where they would go.

On the Gen2, the base model PT does not have the door spears.

They are also only held on with double sided tape. So removing them isn't too terrible of a job to do.

I didn't want to do it for fear of causing damage, but I had a body shop remove the color matched door spears that originally came on my PT for the chrome spears.

LOL cool
I'm not a huge fan of chrome but it does look good against the blue!

I though about removing the spears on mine a long time ago as I had seen some others done and liked the more smooth look. But I decided to leave them in place as they do offer some paint protection, not from door dings but from sand blasting! They stop the small debris kicked up from the tires from hitting the sides of the car...

Yes, I have been somewhat hesitant to remove the spears from FIREBALL for fear of causing damage to the paint.

I DO love the chrome door spears, but NOT the GEN I style that sticks way out. I prefer the GEN II flush style. You can get the flush ones, but I haven't decided if I want to part with $159 plus shipping for them. I'm thinking of it though.

This is from the '06 Dealership Brochure:

What I find odd is that they put the chrome horizontal accents on grille are standard on all models of the PT, but they don't put any bodyside moldings on the base PT. One would think that they could include those as well.

Some touches of chrome, IMO, look good but you can also go overboard then it just looks gawdy!

Standard moldings:

Chrome spears:

I like the chrome ones over the original style as the chrome spears give more dimension to the vehicle, because they do stick out a little more.
