Thumbs down Disappearing PT Cruiser Photos and Information

Mods, please feel free to relocate this, but the subject really does affect the usefulness of this entire forum.

I've been using Photobucket to host photos for years, for the most part for illustrating technical articles about motorcycle maintenance and modification. Recently I got an email from them, stating that they'd no longer allow third party hosting (i.e. posting photos to Photobucket, then linking those photos to other websites like this one) for free. I was thinking "Okay, they're going to ask for maybe $15 or $20 a year to do third party hosting". Wrong. They're demanding $400 a year to continue doing this.

I've already noticed photos going missing from technical articles on this site. I'm right in the middle of a timing belt change- suddenly most or all of the photos are missing from various threads I've been using for reference or instruction. We as a community are losing invaluable resources that have been shared by numerous members here, along with the history of this community and the accomplishments of its more creative and imaginative members.

So... what can we do about this? Does anybody know of a free or reasonably-priced online hosting service where we can post photos and link to them? Is there a chance that vBulletin will make memory available so that we can host photos directly to this site?

It's not just happening here- I'm a member on a couple of motorcycling web forums, and even a moderator on one. Information is disappearing, which negatively impacts the value and usefulness of this community. What can we do about it?

Yep.

Photobucket has literally affected the sum of all human knowledge. Instructional and informative photos in every subject your can imagine are now gone.

Hey SpaceMouse, I use imgur.com. So far, so good. But who knows? At any time any "free" host site can change their mind and hold everyone hostage, just like photobucket. After all, everyone that used them used them for YEARS free of charge. So realistically, people shouldn't bitch about it. That is if you think about it logically.

Another possibility: Check with your own ISP... many ISPs give you some free webspace, which you can use for hosting pictures.

Oh, I fully appreciate that I've had use of their service for free for years now. And I don't mind paying a fair price for a decent product. But jumping from free to $400 a year is a bit much.
Maybe their business model of getting ad revenue while providing a free service isn't working. I get that. But they've basically vandalized websites like this one, while holding information hostage for a ridiculous amount of money.
I can't see this ending well for Photobucket- seems a lot like shooting themselves in the foot.

Yeah - this seriously pisses me off! I've had my pics on Photobucket for YEARS, and they do this with ZERO notification or warning! I for one won't give them $.05 simply because of the way they have handled this. They destroyed my build thread and a lot of important information shared by others!!!

I'm also looking for an alternative idea...

Same here. It isn't the fact that they decided to charge. It's the fact that they decided to charge stupid money AND screwed EVERY person using their service over. This WONT end well for photobucket. Go to their FB page. The flames are epic over there due to user anger. I hope their decision renders them irreversibly crushed.

I just deleted all of my photos off Photobucket to empty my account and added this one. Not that it will do any good, but it did made me feel a little better...
