Default center console removal

What is the secret for removing and re-installing the center console on a 08 PT.
Struggled with it for a couple of hours. Got it out and back in again without destroying anything but what a battle. The big problem is getting it over the park brake lever.

Hopefully will never have to remove the console again but any tips (other than cutting it in half with a bandsaw ) would be appreciated... just in case.

You just need to pull the parking brake lever all the way up. If that doesn't do it for you, try inserting the console over the brake lever with the console at an angle with the front pointed a little toward the driver or passenger floorboard.

Handy,
Thanks for the reply and pics.

Looks like your park brake lever comes up much higher than mine.

You may need to pull on it pretty hard. But where it is in my photos is where it needs to be.

Like lifting the engine when changing the timing belt, you have to pull on that parking brake far, far, farther than you think is humanly possible, then a little more and you'll be able to get that console out.

That exaggerated hand brake position is even necessary in the first generation center console removal. Just click it up a little higher, it'll come out. I took SOOO BIG's center console out when I installed the hidden wiring to the monitor for his back up camera. Happy PTin', ptprice
