Question 2002 or 2004?

I own a 2002 with 150,000 miles. The seller had no prior records, he thought it was the base model. It's started sounding rough and knocks when I start it but gets quieter and smoother ride in 10 minutes. I'm sure Have only had it a month. An

Recently saw another cruiser, 2004. Turbo with 98,000 miles. It is a' 'Limited with leather seats, Sun or moon roof heated seats for the same price I paid for the one I own. I don't know if timing belt was replaced, the seller said it had been owned by grandparent and he doesn't know maintenance history. It's 2hrs away.

.

I need to use a mechanic for any problems. I really enjoy this car and have been reading the posts here to find out ad much as I can. While the 2004 has a lot more featured that I like, the turbo info. I've read day it requires more maintenance and the engine life is shorter.

A dealer is selling the 2004 for the owner. And I'm considering maybe trying to trade my 2002., not sure how that might work. I can't add much more $$ to get it. I had my last car for 10 yrs and would like to have one of these. cars for as long as possible.

Could use your advice, opinions to help me decide.

Welcome to the forum

Since I don't know where you're located, I'm using Kelley Blue Book values for where I am (Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX).

If you trade in your '02, they probably won't give you much for it. In Fair condition max trade-in value is $399. If you try to sell it, max Private Party sale is $1083. How long have you owned your '02 and has the timing belt work been done on it?

How much are they asking for the '04? Per KBB, Good condition Private Party sale max is $2259, but that's if all scheduled maintenance has been performed on the vehicle. If they can't verify that the timing belt work has been performed, then you have to assume that it has not and to have that work done is about $1500 at a dealership, since you said you have to use shops for all work.

When you get a chance, please go to Welcome New PT Cruiser Members - PT Cruiser Forum and create an intro thread telling us a little about yourself and your PT.

I don't know that i'd trust a dealer two hours away telling me a grandparent owned it.

I've. Been trying to find out more and it is the base model. I agree about the grandparent story, doesn't ring true but you never know.

Where I live the Kbb for buying the 2002 is 2,800
I paid a bit under. The 2004 limited with turbo is $2,900.if it's a private party sale. It isn't listed at the deslership site. So I'm guessing it's on the side. .
