Default Rough Feeling Around 40mph, Pedal Vibration/Wheel Vibration

So when I go around 40mph in my cruiser, I notice I get a vibration in the gas pedal, here more of a louder hum sound, get mild vibration in the wheel and generally feel like somethings not natural.

The vibration is very concentrated. Like the buzz of a really fast electric toothbrush, or like the vibration when using a grinding wheel but less noticeable.

Around 55mph it's still noticeable, around 75mph its not as noticeable.

I've also noticed if I place my hand on the very top of my wheel and wiggle back and fourth when going around 40mph, that it feels very wobbly within the first two inches of movement and feels like the handling is a bit off.

My car is falling apart lately I swear.

I would suggest jacking up the front end of the Pt Cruiser and see if either wheel is loose when you move it back and fourth or up and down or sideways.

I would also check the wheel bearings. When was the last time they were replaced?

One wheel bearing was replaced around 30k miles ago.

How do you check the wheel bearings? Just check for wheel movement?

I had the same symtoms you did except for the steering wheel being loose. I jacked up the front end, took it up to 50 mph, with the Mechanic Stethoscope and found my pasenger side wheel bearing was making noise. I replaced both bearings. Chances are if a bearing is bad its the one you have not replaced yet.

I used a Mechanic's Stethoscope to find the noise.

Harbor Freight has it for $3.99 on sale right now.

My experience was that my wheel bearings failed within a month or two of each other. Besides the noise, I could feel this on the gas pedal. Faster was always louder though which doesn't match what you describe

I've also had a rythmic knocking sounds/feel on the steering wheel which was tie rod ends. Yanking up and down on them at the wheel ends they moved up and down 1/8"

Rotating the tires front to back while you're inspecting it all is also a good, free, first step

how old are the tires? check the date code... you could have a tire blistered and about to delaminate. if they are very old its worth jacking up each wheel and looking them over- a tire about to delam is very easy to see or feel. also check for missing wheel weights. the date code will be a four digit number in a small pill shaped oval, usually on only one side. the first two # are the week and the second two are the year....its not uncommon for rear wheel issues to translate through the front or steering wheel.

A tie rod can show up as a viberatiin a certain speeds. Then smooth out once past it's harmonic sweet spot.
