Default Knocking Sound & Really Full Oil?

Okay, so my cruiser has always had this odd sort of chug-like knock to it. It's had this since around 105k miles and currently, has 130k miles. The sound itself has never changed much. However, my worry for its origin is a constant. I've included two videos, one shows the engine and gets a close look at the sound (if that even makes sense), the second is a video that demonstrates how the knock changes with engine RPM.

The knock itself is on the back passenger side of the engine block.

I've included an image as well showing how full the oil is. I overfilled it by accident because I was looking for an oil leak. The leak was never found and is now too full. (Kinda wondering if there was ever a leak.) Will it being this overfilled cause any problems? It's halfway up the 'MAX' arrow. I could buy a hose to drain some, but I don't know if this is still tolerable.

Thank you so much for everyone's information, I always really appreciate it.

I don't seem to be getting any audio from your videos. Not sure why.

A loose timing belt tensioner will allow the timing belt to "slap" causing a knocking sound. And it gets worse over time. The 2.4L in my Sebring did that. And the noise came from the back of the passenger side of the engine. How many miles is on your 2002? PT and has the timing belt ever been changed?

Also, looks like you are about a quart over in oil. Having too much oil in the crankcase can mess up the PVC system and a few other things. A whole lot of extra oil can even ruin the engine. Your not that bad off here. But if me, I'd just drain the excess oil at the drain plug on the oil pan.

Sounds like a rod knock to me...
Also, I had no problems with videos.

I would guess balance chain tensioner is out of adjustment. There's YouTube videos of it

When you have TOOO much oil, you'll have a smokescreen coming out the exhaust pipe. You'll know when it's to full my friend Stacey added a quart every time she got gas. It did no damage but it was a sight to see.

I just replaced the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, water pump, and other related components at 120k. (30k past due )

Any idea if my engine is about to blow on my way to work this Thursday? I'm assuming if it is a rod, the fix would be to pull the oil pan, disconnect the offending rod from the crank shaft, and replace the rod bearing?

Thanks! I'll look this up today, though I wasn't aware PT's had chains?

check here: Question on balance shaft chain

if my car made the noise yours makes, i wouldn't worry about it or even think about it. rod knocks are louder and go bang fairly quickly. adjusting the chain tensioner seems like a very dirty greasy project just to cure a noise.

edit:
here's a dodge neon rod knock. much scarier than what you have
MJKnight likes this.
