Default Did I just make a bad deal on my PT Cruiser 05 v

Got my 2005 PT Cruiser Convertible Touring Edition 2.4L Turbo 2 weeks ago

The car has 153k miles on it!

Sad news is..just a week after buying I got check engine light with code P0420 and I feel likle I made a very bad deal...especually with 153k miles(not kilometres) on it..

Also another wide question-
This is the first car I saw where the on the speedometer miles were on the outwide and kilometres were on the inside...unusual for me sicne I lice in Canada

Also the odometer shows miles not kms

Does it mean thecar was made in USA used in USA then imported to Canada?

I posted the specs on my otjer thread from official dodge website and itsaid imported from California!!!

I guess I would question how practical is it to have a convertible anything in Canada? Would you really get that much use and enjoyment of having the top down?

P0420 CHRYSLER - Catalyst System Efficiency Bank 1

Three way catalyst converter Bank 1
O2 Sensors
Exhaust tube
Intake air leaks
Fuel injectors may be faulty
Fuel injector leaks
Spark plugs may be faulty
Improper ignition timing
Engine Control Module (ECM)

May be wiring as well. But, one thing I would do is look under the car where the CAT is and see if there are weld marks. That would signify that they had problems with the CAT before and welded it for a cheap fix and to pass inspection. If that is the case, take it back and have them fix it on their dollar seeing they did work to it. ( had this happen to someone I know)

If that is not the case, then take it to a shop and have them diagnose it. May be a simple fix like a O2 sensor or spark plug, to well.....something bigger as the whole CAT.

Best of luck.

Efficiency is a calculated number based on pre cat and post cat readings of O2 sensors. If the O2s are good, then your cat is wack.

Get yourself a Carfax report on the VIN and get the history. You can also check the underside of the car. If it's not rotted out and totally rusted, then it probably did spend much of its life in California. All the cars I've owned spent all their lives in California and rust underneath the car is one of the things I've never worried about.

US cars do have their speedometer readouts in MPH on the outside and kph on the inside.
