Default Hard to start after hours sitting

SOLVED/Fixed........ Wiring to the crank sensor was bad.

Hey guys,

I'm cruising, but I have an issue. My car is hard to start in the mornings. After that it's fine all day.

I think it's spark related. Fuel pump kicks on and turns off.
New auto zone cam sensor, new napa crank sensor

Fresh plugs and wires

I'm guessing my coil is bad

Any help?

Coils don't usually go bad in PT's. And if it did, the symptoms would likely be very different.

Try this. Turn the key to on but don't start it. Listen for the fuel pump to start. Wait five to ten seconds and then see if the car starts right up. If so, you may have a fuel leak.

dirty injectors leak when it sits. the fuel more or less floods it and it will be hard to start cold as you describe. after you're running around, the fuel evaporates easier because it's warm. when you park at night the fuel will have time to bleed out of the injectors into the cold engine. a fuel pressure leak down test can help diagnose this.

i would recommend injector cleaning or bare minimum a strong dose of injector cleaner. try a strong dose of the berryman B-12 that Busted_PT loves -it's cheapest and easiest.

just fyi.. the coil is like 2 coils in one. usually one fails before the other. when it happened to me it sounded like a sewing machine as it was running on 2 cylinders. doesn't sound like your issue.

Interesting, could be. I'll have to see about the bleed down test. And injector cleaning places in Orlando. Driving the pt right now delivering pizza.

recommend you try the berryman b12 to see if it helps at all. it's less than $5 at autozone. i'm not big on chemical fixes but people really rave about it and for the price you're not out much either way.

if it's even a little better afterwards you'll know you're going in the right direction, and if you're lucky maybe it'll be a whole lot better.

I'll get it tonight. Could I just unplug the fuel rail at night to test it?

haha.. i do believe you could! careful doing it though, there's enough threads about broken brittle plastic fuel lines. we certainly don't need another.

you have a 2001? if so you could also just push in the schreader valve on the fuel rail and let the pressure out.

if you do this route, cycle the key once in the morning before you start it to make sure the line is filled back up

Great advice!

If not an injector, that Berryman will help clean most of the trash out of the fuel system too. It's worth a try and doesn't cost much.
