Default just dies at 60 mph

howdy. i was wondering if any one can help me here, my girlfriends 02 pt cruiser dies suddenly and randomly even at 70mph on the highway. i know the fuel pump and its componets may be the answer. planning on replacing it soon anyways. the car will just shut off and if you push on the gas hard it may jump back on othwrwise have to put in park or nuetral to restart it work more time than not. we did just had head gasket and cylinder repair in January.

In the mean time I suggest if you are going to be doing DIY work on any PT Cruiser the first NEED TOOL is a scan tool to connect to the diagnostic connector under the dash on the drivers side. Without it it makes it very difficult to solve problems even like the one you are having!
