Default Need new battery

Does anyone have recommendations for where I can find the best, yet cheapest battery for my 2001? Thanks

First, welcome to the forum. You should tell us about yourself and your PT in the new members section.

Battery choices are almost endless and a matter of heated debate among car enthusiasts. For the cheapest "decent" battery, I usually find it's a toss up between Autozone, Advance and Walmart. Even if your money is limited, it's usually better to chose the "mid-range" battery from one of these and not the bottom end cheapest.

For my last three battery picks, I went with Advance because I was able to use a 30% discount code by buying the battery online and then picking it up at the store. This often makes Advance the cheapest on quality batteries.

Here's a 30% off purchases over $50 code - SCW387

And here's $30 off orders over $80 - WELCOME

There's more discounts on www.retailmenot.com.

Welcome to the forum

I went with the Advance Auto AutoCraft Silver 575CCA which was $118.99 and using their online discount took $23.80 off the price, purchased 01/17. It's one of the largest CCA available, but O'Reilly and AutoZone also have something similar.

I had the system on my PT tested the other day and the battery is actually providing 600+ CCA.

I'm entirely pleased with this Optima Red Top Six Pack 34R AGM (Absorbent Glass Matt) battery from AutoZone that has a complete three year replacement warrantee. It was discounted well over 25% from $209.99 to $163.49. Not the cheapest but the best.

A good battery is your best bet if your keeping your PT.

I got mine at KMart. I am not sure if it was a Die Hard since they sell Sears, but I haven't even looked at it since I put it in there. I found out later I could have gotten one cheaper at Walmart, but oh well. I think I paid around $65 for a direct fit, meeting all the requirements in the book.

That's my next choice when my present battery dies, now that we know that the Optima will fit into the PT battery tray.

Yep.

An Optima or another AGM battery is the way to go. But it sure ain't the cheapest.

I put a cheap battery in my GT. Got it at Walmart and was out the door for under $50. They keep them on the top rack. IF you look on line, they won't show any of them in the store. You have to go get it yourself. Be sure to take your old one in for the core.

Maybe not the cheapest up front, but I'm looking for the Optima to last longer as standard batteries in Texas seem to last only a couple of years.

I also put the thermal insulator back onto the battery hoping that will give it some extra life.

I am betting that the Optima will still be considerably more expensive in the long run. I think my car is on its 3rd battery, and the 2nd one was a throw in by a shop when it died while they had the car. 3 batteries in 14 years and 160,000 miles. How long does your Optima have to last to beat that $65 investment? My Dad's 2010 Challenger is on his 2nd at 100,000 miles. They may make more sense for cars you let sit.
