Default air box interchange

I've been driving an 01 PT that is pretty well worn out . I recently bought an 08 and noticed that I can hear the air intake on it and it's kind of annoying , but never could on the older one . Tonight I took a quick look at the air box lid and I can see that the older lid has much better sound baffling but is not interchangeable with the bottom part . Now I am wondering if I can just swap out the complete boxes , are the mounts the same ? BTW , both cars are N/A .

Yep,

Just try it.

On the 2nd Gen turbo PT's, the TIPM sits a little more forward. So the air filter housing is smaller than on the 1st Gen turbo PT's. This means the 1st Gen housing will not work. I suspect the same is true on the NA PT's as well. But you never know until you try.

You are correct. The TIPM on the 2nd gen is larger on turbo and natural asp therefore a smaller air box. The 1st gen box is larger and will not fit 2nd gen. I have both gens and the 2 will not interchange.
