Exhaust fell off again!!! This time at the catalytic convertor. $13 in parts from Advance Auto and everything is quiet again..
I knew it was about to go, I had been hearing a leak near the convertor for a while and hoped it would wait just a little bit longer (like after payday!) but decided to let loose on Saturday on the way to work. Fortunately I keep a small tool box in the back and was able to get the clamps from the previous repair loose to get it apart and throw it in the back of the car.
Talk about LOOUUUUDDDD!!! I thought for sure one of local constabulary on the way home was going to stop me, no one did.
About an hour with help from my brother this past Monday, it's all back together and I can hear the radio again..

Got FRUSTRATED at my Fav Dealer!!!!!

So, today I decided that with my GT's Power Steering reservoir and pump being half way down and behind the radiator, I would let the dealer install my Cardone power steering parts.
We had a bad cold spell that had my power steering groaning for 5-10 minutes, until warm up. I had posted about this in the tech threads.
This was also thought to be one of my chronic drips under the front end.

1. BOY am I glad I didn't try!
It took them 5 hours+ to get the new pump, reservoir, and pulley in!
And, I waited about an hours after that, as he said the steering fluid reservoir kept bubbling up and taking more fluid. (purging the air)
"An Hour"??? Hmmmmm...

2. So, I finally am leaving the dealer....and down the road to another small town, the steering gets stiff again!
I pull off at a gas station and call the service dept manager!
I look in, and the reservoir is EMPTY!!!!
While talking to him, I pull forward a little, get out, and Viola! There's a puddle where I was parked!

So...I return the 10 miles to the dealer.
While I'm pulling in, I see a large puddle, and long streak and puddle on the ground of fresh fluid where I made my turn leaving!!!!

After another half hour of waiting, I get a loaner car....about 5:00 PM.
They say it is the seal between the pump and reservoir leaking!!!!
He has to take it all apart AGAIN!

Just got back from dropping the '04 Dream Cruiser off at the detail shop. Met the owner, Dean, a nice young guy just starting out, he's been doing a lot of the local dealerships cars, but, has decided to branch out to privately owned cars. His prices are more than fair, as he says, 'you have to be known before you can charge more.'

I'll let you guys know how it comes out!

Hey, Paul! He's doing the typical detail work one would expect:

INTERIOR

Carpet, seats blown out, Vacuumed, Scrubbed and Steamed with Extractor
Plastic, Leather/Vinyl Scrubbed and Wiped
Door Jams Cleaned and Floor Mats done
Interior Windows

EXTERIOR

Thorough Hand Wash with Clay Bar
Rims & Tires Degreased, Scrubbed & Dressed
Wax with 2 Step Wheel Out
Exterior Moldings & Chromed Polished
Exterior Windows

Engine Detailing

Sticker Removal (actually he's removing two strips where a stick on was)

Sorry, he does not list ding removal, however I'll ask when I pick up the car.

He does do other things, but, they are extra cost or by estimate.

He's on Walton in Pontiac, a fairly straight shot from your place.

I bought the Cardone parts because, they were said to better than OEM; and they were new! Not reman.

Story eventually has a good ending!
Yes, the defective seal between the reservoir and pump was the big leak.
(Or, did he just forget to place it in the first place????)

When I got there this morning they were replacing the serpentine belt, since it was squealing from all the steering fluid!

Drove it back this morning...everything now fine!

Cool, new parts should be good then.

Glad they got it all fixed up again for you, hopefully stays that way for a long time to come!

A nice easy one today, replaced both rear hubs/bearing assemblies on a disc brake model. 60 delivered (ebay) and only an hour to do it. It took longer to clean the wheels afterwards. Now on 146k miles

Picked up the Dream Cruiser from the 'Detail Shop!' Could not be happier with the job that was done. The interior has been brought back to nearly new. The exterior has a mirror like finish, though, the buffing did uncover four small bad spots a small area that is beginning to fade, a small door ding, and two small scratches. The engine compartment, which was covered with 15 years of road grim is now. . . SHINY!

No, Paul, he does not do door dings, too bad!

Came home via the freeway and found out going from 55 to almost 110 happens pretty quick with the turbo. . . oops!!
