The other day, I replaced the dash. It's an '01, silver, with a taupe interior. At the salvage yard some time ago, I picked up a good taupe dash and a good slate gray dash. The guy at the yard asked why I had two dash covers. I told him I couldn't decide on the color I liked.

I wanted to replace the dash cover because the defroster grille was starting to break and I want to avoid the dreaded "keys down the defroster duct" syndrome.

While I had the dash off, I re-lamped the instrument cluster. NAPA has a good price on #74 bulbs ( the stock size), around $10 for a pack of 10 bulbs. I had also picked-up some of those 1/4 turn bulb sockets for the instrument cluster at the salvage yard.

I went with the slate gray dash.

Quite the weekend for my PT!

Started at the junkyard, on a 40% off sale, I got a new overhead console, coolant jug cap, door speaker to replace the one that never worked, rear shelf I never had, a matching rim to replace the one I have which is leaking and a turn signal bulb socket to replace a broken one!

Then did a tire rotation, oil and filter change!

Now to tackle the brakes on my wife's Chevy...

I just changed the oil and filter. Went to my cousin's garage to get the used motiv wheels in chrome finish. I will test fit them this coming weekend and see what happens.

I have had a P0340 code three times in the past three weeks. I checked the wire harness and this is what happened. Cheap duracrap. I replaced it with one from a company called Standard. It was half the price the dealer wanted, who by the way, recommended it.

Standard beats duracrap all day, every day. There is always the chance that Standard built the OEM part for Mopar.

SOOO BIG NEEDED A GLUG I noticed SOOO BIG was getting a little clunk when I shift if don't wait for that few moments in the morning at first start up.
SOOO BIG's in fine shape with all four new trans and motor mounts, CVC joints and such. Everything's tight and no leaks. But I've not paid that much attention to the tranny fluid when the engine's hot. My bad.
Looking for an easy fix, even though the afternoon temperature was 97F, with the parking brake on I stirred and shifted through all the gears, up and back and up and back again then to park. Maybe just a bit of macho engine rev as an exclamation point. (As the saying go's about guys my age, we can't stir the pot any more but we can can still lick the spoon) I checked the automatic transmission fluid dip stick while the engine was hot and behold, SOOO BIG needed a glug of ATF+4 fluid. Three glugs later, in quarter bottle increments, the fluid level's back at the hot end of the stick, on the mark. No more clunk.
While I had the fluid in hand I took a look at the power steering reservoir proving it was still OK. Same fluid, if it needed it.
I've been checking the tranny fluid while it's cold in the cool of the morning. There's never been a leak and perhaps at oil changes when the engine's cold the fluid might've been reading somewhere acceptable in the cold range. So forewarned, get out there tonight before the engine on your PT gets cold, and check your tranny fluid lever. No matter how hot it is outside.
When first checked hot, the fluid in SOOO BIG's tranny was clear, not at all dirty or gritty and came to just above the top end of the cold range so I knew it didn't need much. The STP ATF +4 fluid that I added has a slight red tint that'll make it easier to read.
Happy PTin', ptprice

Just drove up to Lowes this morning after a GREAT breakfast and thought a drive with the Vert "top down" would be fun? Sitting at a stop light the engine did the traditional shut of and subsequent quick crank spin on re-start.......... timing belt broke AAA on the way! But the destination drop off will be to the storage area next to my "other" PT with the toasted, roasted A604/41TE! Another days project and lots of enthusiasm needed to work on either. Maybe next year?

At least you have the parts and know how to rectify the situation, Lynn. You have a plan for a couple of days now!

Popped off the liftgate inner panel and disconnected the wires to the switch, as it was randomly unlocking with a mind of its own.....
