Ok! That's it! Im done with Badyear tires!!! In the less than 2 years I've had my PT, I've had 8 Badyear Eagle tires on it. Of the original 4, 3 had to be replaced when I did a panic stop and they developed "flat spots". The 4th had to be replaced when a belt separated. Today, when having the tires rotated, another tire was found to have a belt separating...I think it was one of the "flat spot" replacements... This doesn't count numerous flats, I know all tires have flats, but these Badyears seem to attract steel screws and nails, more than any other tires.
I'm thinking about trying Cooper tires...any thoughts on this? Any other suggestions about good tires?

Thanks:
SRG
You are speakin' to the choir brother! [xx(] My PT came with the 15" tires, and I think in less than a year I had all 4 patched twice.. I feel so lucky that a fellow PT owner gave me her OEM 16" painted wheels.. I got to put new tires on my PT and have not picked up a nail or screw in over 3 years. I also still drive to the same places.[:I] I went with Remingtons(dunlop A2 copy), a nice California tire.

I have Brigestone Potenza G009's on my PT now, and they feel fine, but then I'm in cali with no snow or ice. I have also heard great things about the Conti Extreme Contacts, which you can get on TireRack..

ps I run my tire PSI at 36..

The steering wheel on my GT sometimes shakes, an inch to the right then an inch to the left, back and forth very fast.

I think it must be the Goodyear tires. After 39,000 miles I was told by the Chrysler dealer that they wanted $998- to replace them.

The Goodyear store wanted $820-.

[8)]
Man, you got to get away from Goodyear Tire Stores and the Dealer!!! Those same Goodyear Eagles go for $85 to $95 each, installed and balanced, in a "normal" private tire store.

But, if you're going to buy tires, DONT BUY GOODYEAR, (Badyear, Good-for-a-year) I'm replacing mine with Coopers, others have had good experience with Michellin and Bridgestone.

[xx(]Ok, I'm desperate as well. My husband and I have 2001 Touring edition and we are about to put two more tires on after already replacing all FOUR! We started the replacements at about 25K and they are trying to tell us at Goodyear that its because the car rides so low to the ground. We also have an issue with the air staying in the tires and now we need brakes. Is this common?

My GT is now running on Yokohama Avid V4s size 215/50/17 which has the correct load rating for the GT and handles far better than the stockers and is just as quiet, rides smoother, and holds air. It has a rating for wear of 500 so it should last 20,000 miles better than the RSA's which did make 38,000 miles. It is unidirectional as was the RSA's I think! I am very happy with my choice.

I'm getting ready to replace my RSA's now at 30K. Never a problem. One gets lucky now and then, I only wish I was getting lucky with the lottery instead.

IMHO - 30K and needing tires IS a problem - I get 50,000 or more regularly on Michelins. Granted, there are "grippier" tires than Michelin, but Goodyears aren't that grippy, either.[:I]

QSD, I lived in Florida for over 15 years now and no matter what tire or how much I spend on them I get 2 to 3 years tops, usually 2 to 2 1/2. That being said, the Cruisers Goodyears did fine by me.
As far as being "grippy", it rains like crazy here and never once did I have a problem with hydroplaning. So again, my Goodyears did fine by me.

I agree with rszapp1, I have the Michelin Hydro-Edge and I've put about 6500 miles on them and it's a vast improvement over the Badyears. I also have the whine between 45 & 55 and a little squeal in corners on hot pavement but on rain they are excellent. With a treadwear rating of 800, I'd expect more noise than I'm hearing. Maybe it's there and I've just been to too many ZZ Top concerts!
My granddaughter say's the Badyear's make excellent tire swings!

My '04 base has 21k miles ant the tires look about 1/2 worn. They should mak it to 40k. My wife had a '97 Pontiac Sunfire that came with Goodyear tires, GTA's I think. They went 98,000 miles before being replaced. They would have made it to 100k if I had, had an alignment done. I put another set on and they still looked good 50k miles later when we traded the Sunfire in.
