I didn't call my company. I called the at fault operators insurance company. I am not much for sueing. In Connecticut, the attorney get 33% of award. Way to much for a couple hours of work. If the insurance company makes a fair offer for repair , I will probably just drive it like it is.

It's too bad the rear hatch got dinged, if it had just been the bumpers those would be much easier to fix.

Well, the appraiser looked at my Cruiser today. And to my surprise, made a fair, at least to me, offer. Maxed out to $200.00 short of totalling the car. Said I should get a check in a week. Sometimes you just get lucky.

You're going to fix it?

Fix it, then insure the vehicle for a higher value to protect it next time. I'm going to look at insuring my GT for $7500, so If it gets hit, it's gonna take serious damage before they try to total it.

You can do that with "classic" or "antique" cars, but don't they have to have that classification to insure for higher than blue book value?

You just have to pay for it. I heard you can also add a "no total" clause so they can't total the vehicle and give it a salvage title if it wrecks, but again, you have to pay extra for it.

No probably not. Damage is minor. I haven't had a fulltime job in 10 years. It's Christmas and my family needs stuff. Don't like to think something like this happens for a reason, but maybe.

Too bad you don't have a Gen2, it seems that pre-painted bumper covers can be found for about $200 each, but are much more expensive for the Gen1.

Since the worst damage is on the top of the rear bumper cover, you might consider getting a rear bumper cover pad to at least cover the worst damage

https://www.ebay.com/itm/01-05-Chrysler-PT-Cruiser-REAR-BUMPER-SCUFF-PAD-PROTECTOR-MOPAR-GENUINE-OEM-NEW/202100966523?epid=1929376220&hash=item2f0e28047b:g a4AAOSwEeFVR2vH&vxp=mtr

Plenty of 3M tape should hold it in place and cover most of the damage.
