Default Frustrated! Car battery keeps draining

We purchased a 2001 PT Cruiser in July. Its been nothing, but headaches with draining batteries. We replaced 4 batteries then the alternator. We replaced terminals, got a more expensive battery at the end of September. Everything seemed to be fine for 5weeks and then... dead again! Changed it out it lasted about 2weeks... dead again... replaced weeks later of course dead again! We sent it to the mechanic and while it sat there waiting to be looked at it died again. We got it back the next day and all they could say was the battery was no good! Yesterday it was dead again, so AAA came out and they checked everything, said its not the ALT,Starter,Battery etc and theres no drain!!we went out and purchased a jumper, today at 130 it had a hard start, but started... at 230 it was dead again! Im seriously at a loss.. We did notice that the CD player normally reads ERROR the day before it dies. It has no alarm, remote starter etc. It does have a sunroof.

Would it happen to have fog lights?

Check the power sockets (or cigarette lighter socket if it has one) and make sure there's not something stuck in there. Sounds like you have a parasitic drain somewhere.

Have you checked the wiring under the engine to see if they have dropped down hitting the half shaft shorting wires to ground keeping the charging circuit from fully charging the battery? Follow the crankshaft wiring from the crankshaft all the way to the PCM. The 2001 & 2002 PT Cruisers are common on the clip breaking that holds up the wire harness. Its possible it might be shorting to ground only when you are in motion and not parked.

If the wiring is good I would look for a battery drain. The link below might help you if you have a voltmeter that can read amps. Member Soyomb mentioned the fog lights and that would be the first one to disconnect if you are drawing amps with the ignition off.

One member had a trailer hitch wiring shorting out and the power was directing from the battery. And as Rob302 mentioned check any extras such as aftermarket remote or alarm. Check to see if there are any wires coming out of the fuse box that looks like it might have been added in.

Check to see as Chuzz mentioned on the power outlets if there is a coin stuck in the front power outlet. Usually the fuse blows but you never know.

Does your engine light come on intermittently?

There is definitely something draining the battery.

Also, there is definitely a need for a new mechanic!

Thanks for coming back

But can you please respond to an earlier question from another member, it may or may not be related to your current issue:
