Default "Key in Ignition" and fuel gauge that jumps between empty and full

Hey, guys. Just bought a 2008 PT Cruiser with 104k miles on it and, so far, I love it! Great little car for getting back and forth to work! I've got a couple kinks to work out in it, though, and I'm hoping you guys can help out

First, I can't lock the car with remote since I constantly get a 'key in ignition' error. Hoping this is a quick, easy fix and not requiring me to get a new ignition switch????

Secondly, my fuel gauge jumps from Full to Empty....as if there's a loose ground or something? Is there a wiring schematic available for my car? I feel like I could run down the issues if I had the schematic.

Anyway, really appreciate any help you guys can give.

Bandy

I think it was Handy Cruiser gave me the '06 service manual. I'm sure hes probably got an '08 one but the fuel system is probably the same

Page 5153 has some good info

Could be something as simple as the connector being loose

Not too sure about the key ignition. If you need to replace it and want to go the cheap route. Most junkyards leave the keys in the trunk or in the ignition. If you could live with having two keys (1 for ignition 1 for rest of key functions) it would be fairly cheap. Local scrapyard charges $20 for this

Great tips, guys! thank you. I'll check the low hanging fruit first (G104 ground issue) then move on to the Fuel pump/sending unit inspection. Will keep you posted!

At lunch I went out to my car to see if I could find the G104 ground connection, but I couldn't locate it by using the diagram. Here's a photo of my engine...can you tell me 'about' where the connector is in the photo?

Not specific to your Pt Cruiser but the G104 ground location is the same.

What I'm saying is, I can't equate things in the diagram with my actual engine compartment. is the diagram the entire right side of the engine compartment, with the front of the car toward the left side of the diagram?

Do I have to remove anything to see this connection or should it be visible by just opening the hood?

Sorry, just saw in the referenced thread that I had to take the fendor and headlight out to get to the ground. Will try that when I get a spare few minutes

I just repaired this ground. There is no need to remove the fender but the fender liner and headlight, yes. Once the passenger headlight is removed, you can get to the ground. It is located on the inner fender behind the a.c. hoses. You will be doing this mostly by feel because of the hoses being in the way but it is possible to do.

I'm pretty sure removing the top engine mount lets you see a major group of wiring sitting on the body just passed the fendor
