Default Key In Ignition 2008 Cruiser

My car constantly warns me when I open the door that the key is in the ignition when, in fact, it is not. I've looked through the 2006 Manual for the schematic for the circuit that is telling my car that the key is in the ignition, but can't find it. Has anyone ever dealt with this before? Can I pull the ignition switch and troubleshoot the 'key present' switch there? Would love a schematic of this circuit to aid in troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Bandy

How does it warn you? Chimes?

Yes, chimes and displays "Key in Ignition" in the Instrument Cluster display

Maybe there's an option to bypass it?

The link below indicates that the computer thinks the key is still in the ignition switch in the off position. I would suggest fixing this issue before fixing the fuel gauge issue. The two issues might be caused by the same problem.

In the link below stroll down to where it says "Key in Ignition warning".

Chrysler Workshop Manuals > PT Cruiser L4-2.4L (2008) > Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators > Audible Warning Device > Component Information > Description and Operation > Chime/Buzzer - Description > Page 9552

The 2006 ignition is redesigned from prior years. If you must remove the actual ignition switch you will need a 5 point star torx bit.

can anyone find the schematic for the key-in ignition switch? I've searched high and low through the manual but can't find it

In the 2006 Factory Shop Manual under wiring 8W-13-9. #5 is key in. It shows the ignition switch wiring diagram.
