Default Repo and no keys

2009 NA REPO. So no keys. Locksmith is on the way out to see if he can make a very expensive key. I have the key and secret code number.

But, there's always a but, the only locksmith in town does not have any keys with remote. So a key with the chip but no remote unlock.

So here is the problem I think I see coming down the road. Because the alarm is triggered, I am afraid the chip only key may not shut off the alarm. Leaving me with no way to start the car. And $150 poorer.

Thoughts? I might just be being paranoid.

Once the alarm is triggered, if you have the right key...starting the car will shut if off.

The dealer could have made you the right key for about the same price.

Thanks LionPt. I would have preferred to go to the dealer but he wanted 230. plus I have to tow the car to them. Montana seems to be covered in ice at the moment so I elected to have the locksmith drive on out. Well see!

The fob-key that the 2nd Gen PT uses is extremely common. I'm surprised your locksmith doesn't have one. You might postpone your appointment and call another locksmith or see how long it will take your locksmith to get the right key. I mean, I can order one from Amazon and have it here the next day. Surely a professional can do as much, right?

Handy, I agree 100 percent.

But he's the only game in town.

So locksmiths been here and gone. Key works to shut off the alarm, but, alas, no start.

The PRNDL readout in the dash says the tranny is in 1st gear. Shift lever says its in park.

I'll start a new thread and see what the group has to say.

Chances are that the shift cable is messed up or out of adjustment. The repo company may have done this trying to get the car out of park without a key.

If me, I'd remove the center console and the air filter housing. Then I'd observe what's going on when I shift. It may be a simple fix.

I just bought 2 blanks with remote and chip for $13.99 shipped. I bought a pair a couple of years ago for a bit more. I did some calling and an honest local locksmith cut 4 keys and programmed 3 for $75. Others wanted $100 for one key and the dealership wanted a second mortgage on my house <g>.
