Joel, I'd have no problem with a salvage title if I was going to use the car as a parts vehicle or I intended to drive it till it completely died.

If it's as good as they are saying, check it carefully, and it runs out OK, go for it or send me the ad.

Unless your state places restrictions on them, a salvage-title PT Cruiser is no less valuable than one with a straight title. This is one of the advantages to owning cars that are already at the very bottom of their value cycle. That said, it also means that it's possible to find similar a PT without a salvage title for the same money.

If me and if I really liked the car, I'd buy it with no hesitation.

I would request a vehicle history report before making a decision. Don't take the seller's word on why the vehicle has a salvage title on it.

Handy, I've been looking for a second PT for a while, preferably a GT and I'll tell you up in our area S.E. Michigan and plus 200 to 250 miles they tend not to be cheap if they are in any kind of shape at all.

About $7000 is the norm for most GT's with good bodies and reasonable mileage for age, and there are plenty for $8000.

I have seen two below $2000. One actually runs and the other only needed an engine. . .

That's terrible. Here, folks will often try to list a PT GT on Craigs list somewhere in the $4000 range. But over time they drop the prices until around $2000. And sometimes that are even cheaper if they need a little work.

You might consider watching Craigslist from several states around you. And if they seem more in line with what I'm seeing here, you might take a day trip or two to look at some in a neighboring state. Here's some examples. There's three pretty nice cars in this list. I'd be all over the $900 2004 Dream Cruiser if I didn't already have too many projects.

This one has been listed for some time:

Under 80K mileage. Sure less than the higher prices you mentioned.

Back to the original question -
If this is a hobby car than what do you have to loose if it runs/drives in a fashion that seems reasonable to you? Price is inviting.

For a thousand bucks? Heck yeah, if I had the money, I'd jump on a deal like that.

$7000? I would be happy to take that for mine and I drive it to work every day! I have a 160,000 miles, but that is under 11,000 per year.

I think it depends on the GT & who wants it & where & condition---PT's are at that mid point --approaching 15 years old nice impact colors -low miles well maintained will start to climb over the next few years---$7k may be cheap someday if you can find one---I'm thinking more like $15k & up ,,,, just my opinion) I saw it happen with various cars that people liked & strayed from but wanted one again!!
