Dorman parts has a reman. TIPM. For my car that is supposed to be plug and play. No assignment or programing needed. Dealership and independent shops tell me the same song and dance y'all have probably all heard. Anybody here know anything about these units, and where on my car it hides?

The TIPM is behind the battery when you open the hood. The TIPM cover is off in the image below.

Several plugs on bottom, they are all keyed or different sizes, you cannot mix them up.

There are two places in the TIPM for VIN numbers, The first is the original VIN and the second is what ever car it was moved to.
The manual shows a B222C code for VEHICLE CONFIGURATION NOT PROGRAMMED and B2206-CURRENT VIN MISSING/MISMATCH What do the Doorman instructions say? Why are you replacing the TIPM if you don't know where it is? ( This speaks to not doing actual testing ) |

Yes the Dorman units are plug and play. No programming required. The same goes for a used TIPM from the junkyard. My local junkyard charges 20 for a "fuse box".
The programming is actually the same for all pt cruisers, regardless of turbo or not. It's the same file. The Dorman unit will learn your vin and write it...not that it matters. If installing a junkyard unit, it will already have a vin programmed however it doesn't matter and it will work. It will not generate a check engine light. The only person that could see a vin mismatch code would be the dealer, and only if they went looking for it; similar to installing a used instrument cluster. I have sold a number of them and never had a return. |

Non working turn signal issue. New bulb, new socket. Good ground, getting power to socket. Problem was diagnosed as a tipm issue by a mechanic I know who is well trained on newer cars. He is familiar with canbus wiring. He just neglected to tell me where the unit was hiding.

" Can bus" wiring does not come into play for the run from TIPM to turn signal socket. The TIPM applies power to the socket to make the light work and the other end of the socket wire is grounded to the body. Assuming that your guy properly tested for power and actually have power at the socket, your TIPM is likely OK. If your guy properly tested for ground, the light should light. Is he using a digital volt meter without a stray voltage eliminator? |

As far as I was told, good ground, 12.something at the socket. I will double check again to be sure before I buy anything. Two people checked it with the same result. New bulb, new socket, new multifunction switch. I'll let y'all know how it goes 😐
