Question Stage Chip questions

So I am a college student I imagine i know the answer however I have to ask

My Car
2004 GT PT Cruiser Stock except Cat Back exhaust

My Driving Habits
Week Day/// in town driving (2 mile commute each way (max speed 30mph auto-start with 13 minutes of run time in the mornings during the winter season)

Weekend/// 1 long road trip every weekend. (road trip length is 200 miles each way at 75mph) (Some in town driving as well)

My Question
Has anyone tried the various Ebay stage 1 2 etc chips? (My main goal is gas mileage + a little extra fun )

I see there is many different stage 1 chips offered. Currently, I am hesitant to buy a Chinese POS however, sometimes the Chines knock offs are quite good I have thought about the Diablo tuner but I cannot justify spending $240 at this time in my life unless I know I will make the money back up eg better gas mileage. Especially if there is a $75 chip that will work almost as good as the Diablo.

(I do love to tinker with things I do not see any major performance upgrades in teh future of my PT however.)

Ebay Chips I have seen

Jegs Stage 1 = $240
Dragon Fire Stage = $75
Tune stage 1 = $75

Tuner power Stage 22 = $56
Viper Stage 3 = $68

While the Diablo trinity is like $400.... unless someone recommends some cheaper alternative tuner... or I am looking in all the wrong places....

Thank You all for youre time

Will

I have an 04GT as well with the Diablo tune. You have to use 91 octane and fuel mileage increase is negligible. It does make good mid-range power.

If you want better fuel economy - I would suggest getting an Ultra-gauge and monitor your driving style. In my 04, i was getting 19mpg but by adjusting my driving style as viewed by instant mpg readout on the ultra-gauge, i can normally get 22.5mpg+, even 25+mpg on highway.

You would be suprised how much of a difference 70mph is vs 75 on fuel economy

19 vs 22.5 mpg is not gonna make or break the bank TBH.

You're never going to get 10+mpg more. If that's the goal then trade with someone who has a Civic or Metro.

Just enjoy your car for what it is. Don't recommend wasting money on no-name performance chips. If you can't find real user reviews on the enthusiast forums, then best stay away. Most are just resistors that change inlet temperature, or the more advanced ones alter boost signal but do nothing to fuel curves, timing, etc. Neither is gonna be worth your time.

best performance-value mod is to delete the catalytic converter and replace it with a straight section of pipe. next, i suggest a used 'stage 1' computer from ebay, buy one that comes with free programming to your VIn number.
