Well the replacement engine splash shield I'd ordered for SOOO BIG came in. It's to replace the one that has that "little bit pregnant look."
If you'll remember I'd picked out the cheapest one listed when I found out, no matter who I was buying from, no matter what the cost, they were all exactly the same product. So I popped for the cheapest at $23.99 including shipping/ handling. I was concerned after reading all the dire Forum predictions about quality. Warnings like. "So thin it'll be folded flat in a package. Thin as construction paper. Much thinner than the factory one. It's not the same thickness as OEM. It'll flop and flutter while driving". With relief I found a full sized, big enough to hold a non folded engine splash shield, package under my mailbox this morning. When opened up, there inside was a pristine, made in Taiwan, as original, not folded, probably thicker than OEM, PT Cruiser engine splash shield. It's so close to the original product in shape, type of plastic and thickness I'm gonna ask LionPT to send me a MOPAR sticker to put on it as he promised. As a spring project for any PTer that wants to exchange their engine splash shield or finds theirs is missing, the supplier was CarParts.com, 1-877-702-1308. They referred to the part asReplacement Engine Splash Shield-Front, Passenger Side, Lower- REPC310119- (Accessory Drive/Pulley Splash Shield) It listed the lowest of all the choices at $16.91 and with shipping/handling the total was $23.99. Ya gotta keep them belts and pulleys dry. So I got two easy projects coming up with SOOO BIG. Exchanging the engine splash shield and exchanging the driver's side cowl cover for one without rotting around the drain hole. I found this replacement cowl cover on a walk about at the salvage yard a few weeks ago for two bucks. ![]() Just a little bit pregnant look SSPX0014 (640x480).jpg the new engine splash shield IMG_20180322_150541 (480x640).jpg driver's side cowl cover and new engine splash shieldd IMG_20180322_150302 (640x480).jpg

I figured a lot of PTers would want to replace their engine splash shield. It's Spring time. Time to bolt on a new engine splash shield. Good quality for $23.99 shipped.

The old engine splash shield came out yesterday. In comparing, I noticed the access plug hole was too small on the new one. It was cut smaller. I prefer that than too big. So I hogged the hole out.
While the old shield was out, SOOO BIG was treated to an under engine cleaning. Eight quarters worth. Now if I happened to run over someone, they can admire the underneath of SOOO BIG's clean engine. I installed the new engine splash shield this afternoon. All without event. Well except for one bolt that wouldn't tighten. It threaded down good till just before it bottomed out, then it wouldn't tighten completely. Was it a thread hole that had been stripped? That'd be a bummer. Common sense prevailed. I thought for a common denominater. The bolt threaded down till just before being snug, then kept spinning. Chercher the bolt. I backed the bolt out and sure enough the bottom threads were completely worn down. A dig in my bolt box yielded a good bolt that snugged right up. ![]() A test drive indicated no "flapping" on the new one.
