Default fun issues

well have had this car (2004 dream cruiser) for a couple days now and started reading the issues they can have. the last owner said it was driving great but now with my luck i am seeing those issues. was planning on getting a new ignition since i had to press the key in a little further when the car started to get the radio on. the check engine light also turned on and after having that checked they said it was Low Voltage. so the auto store said needs an alternator. i was going to check further to see if it was something else but now i have a dead battery over night. last night i checked the battery and it was reading right both with the car On and Off. i did find a large dowel stick tie wrapped between the + battery wire and a hose. was thinking that could be an issue too. well time to trouble shoot. if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

check engine light is now off. i moved the positive battery cable over a little so now its out of the way of the hose. also found a wire under the battery that the out wrap has come off and seemed to be rubbing against something so raised that higher out of the way. think it might be a temp fix.

Fog light switches are pretty common to drain the battery I'm pretty sure

Alternator replacement truly sucks, You have to remove the drive shaft to fit it under the car

Check for snapped ground wires, Each wheel well has one, both of mine were broke on my PT cruiser when I got it, and looking for an extra in the scrapyard proved this is a very common issue.

I also had a snapped ground wire that goes from the muffler to the body.

What often happens on 1st Gen PT's is that the when the fog light control fails on the multi-function switch, it fails in the "ON" position. So the fog lights will just stay on permanently. This drains the battery if you don't notice it. It's possible to repair the multi-function switch. I did an early thread on that. But it's just as cheap to replace it.

Take a picture of the wire you moved. Maybe someone here will be able to tell you what the hell it's for.
