Default PAINT IR(mika) vs IR(pearl)

2001 originally bought CRUISER in PEL inferno red.
At 140K miles replaced rear door from plum" 2002
DREAM CRUISER. Bought 2 NAPA BCC0412 IR(met)
8 oz dupli-color spray. Found the color is much darker
than the car. I am thinking it might be a (PEARL) color
but I cannot find ACC0412 available anywhere.

Is it because I painted over sanded darker plum door, or
it is the wrong paint? The cap of the NAPA paint is darker just
like the door came out.

The PEL coded paint you have is this

https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-E.../dp/B00407TT7E

There is another inferno red that was used on our PTs, but it is code PRH. It is a pearl (Inferno Red Pearl Coat) and was used on later model year PTs.

Your PEL should be applied over a light (white or gray) colored base coat.

You do realize that since you have a 2001 (a 17 year old PT) and that your red will have faded A LOT since the PT was new. Reds are especially prone to fading. It is no longer the bright red it once was. Unfortunantley, the PEL you're getting in these new cans of paint is the bright red your PT used to be.

You may end up going to one of your local auto body paint supply stores and having them mix up a custom aerosol can or two for you after going out and checking the paint on your PT. That's what I would do if I was in your place.

Duplo has limited their colors to one that is close as they see it to fit several paint codes. If your like me, i seem to be the one with the furthest out of the cluster match system.

The duplicolor PEL is close if you use the
right color primer.
IN MY CASE A LIGHT GREY OR WHITE PRIMER WORKS.

This means you not getting coverage. In a spot repair it will leave a dark halo as it hits the cars color coat. Some areas have paint stores that can mix you the right color in a spray can and clear coat with hardners. Must be used once the activator is mixed in. Does a much better job. As a vette man myself. Duplo in not a very good option. I've done professional looking jobs with a rattle can. But the sheer work involved versus using the real stuff, is just not worth the compromise. JMHO.
