Default Vent Select Fix

Now that I got my AC running good, I kind of want to have the vents work right, currently only my defrost works

I know i need to replace the cable, I cannot find the part # for the cable, or if they even sell replacements. Can't find on rockauto too.

And has anyone done this before? Can't find any guides on how to fix. Thanks )

No, prices can vary a lot.
I don't think that's a bad price, as long as you can pick it up...no shipping cost.

that dealer is about 5 hours from me, Just found that on the googles,

Going to try to bend it before replacing it, its not the money, its that I'm lazy and don't feel like tearing apart my dash.

if this is the kink here, I got my fattest set of plyers trying to straighten it out, if this doesn't work, might get it some help from mr heat gun.

Looks like this might have happened before, someone has been in here, on the right side of the console you can see someone pryed it off with a screw driver at some point. Its a 7 owner car so shit happens

Well that ****ing sucked, Took me an hour and a half to replace, fiddled with it, cable wasn't the problem, the blend door is seized or something, even manually with my hands changing the linkage, i couldn't get the vents to work

I am in the exact same boat. 2007, and mine is also stuck on Defrost (which is fine I guess, works for winter).

But I am not even sure where to start with replacing the bent cable.

You were never able to get it working again?

Have you disassembled the cover from the right of the air box (to the left of the removed glovebox).
The mechanism for controlling the air flow doors can be examined there.

When ours was purchased it suffered a similar condition.
I was almost resigned to having to remove the unit to make the repair.

Luckily, with the side cover removed the "frozen" defrost door was able to move after somewhat gentle torquing in both directions.
If my memory serves, it is the arm most to the rear of the car in orientation.

The "cam and track" arrangement that engages/synchronizes the control doors can become misaligned complicating matters, so look at that also.
The cover is responsible in keeping the peg in the channel - and it is only up to the task in the best of conditions.

On our defroster control door there was a tendency to stick in the defrost position.
As a prophylactic, an appropriate sized rubber block was cut and glued in a fashion that buffered the defrost door control arm when positioned in the full defrost position.

Our situation was complicated due to a previous event where someone had done the practical joke of pouring Mylar confetti into the defroster vents so as to have the surprise of a confetti shower when engaging the system.
Such lack of love and respect is what makes them the used car bargain!

ill take the door off and post picutres on Monday when i'm free. I put a new cable on, and I didn't pay much attention to how it worked. If I remember correctly the gear that had the cable attached to it was fine, but it attached to another gear ontop of it, that was L shaped? and it snapped into the main gear and that wouldn't move freely and when I forced it to move air still didn't come out of the normal vents.

I'm nervous to try to jam it into another gear, defrost works really well, and I'd rather have just defrost then nothing.
