Good luck finding any car that doesn't have security any more. You have to have two keys to add another. You csn have one cloned. But that doesn't give you the ability to add more. You need two different keys for that. But you eill have the ability to have two keys. So you may have to get it local or have a new key programmed into your computer by the dealer. Probably more expensive than cloning at lows or other retailers.

My '01 LE only had one key when I bought it. I went to a local locksmith and in a few minutes and about $70, they cut a new key and programmed it for me. The dealership in town wanted $150 and needed to have the Cruiser on site.

I would rather pay $70 for a spare key then have to call out a locksmith, if you lock your keys in, or worse, loose it and have to call a towing service, pay them $100, have it towed to the dealership and pay them another $150. Also, you have lost a days worth of time. This could include wages. Eight hours @ $15 per hr, I needed a starting point, is $120.

$70 or $400 and a days time.

Choice is yours.

Just went through this with my '01.

You will need two programmed keys to program a third key yourself (like the keys from the eBay auction). You can get a cloned key for $50 or $60 from hardware stores, but a cloned key doesn't count as the "second" key for programming a third.

If all you want is a second key get the Lowe's key (the clone). If you want to be able to have a third or fourth key, go to the dealer and have them make you the second key (a programmed key). Prices at dealerships vary, call more than one if you have more than one near you. Price for me was $63 for the key (cut), and $45 for programming, came out to $113 after tax. I then programmed a couple of generic keys that I had bought and had cut at a local hardware store.

On my 03 GT, I removed the steering wheel cover, zip tied the gray key to the module and put the cover back on. That was after having 3 keys cut at Walmart for about $2 each. That way, I could just use a spare key to drive the car whenever I wanted to and the wife and son both had a key for it too.
