Default Help ASAP loosing transmission fluid

My cars alternator gave up the ghost Friday, Took it apart saturday. My replacement alternator is for the wrong year so it is sitting until tuesday when I can get another one, with the drive shaft out I noticed overnight it lost a good amount of fluid how can I get it to stop leaking? Where do I add fluid when the job is done? Should I put the drive shaft back in?

Probably best...

Should be a fill plug on the tranny - usually a bit over half way up and towards the back - or there has been on both the PT's I've been under.

Plenty of WD 40 advisable...

Your PT is an automatic, right?

Just put a bucket under the tranny to catch any fluid that leaks out. You may want to install a new CV shaft seal before reinstalling the CV shaft. It's a good thing to do while the shaft is out.

If an automatic, once the CV shaft is reinstalled and everything else is put back together, pour the fluid back in the tranny through the dip stick tube. If you lost a lot you did not catch, add approx what you think you lost, but not too much. Then start the engine and let it warm up a bit while in park. Then while in park, check the fluid level with the dip stick. If the fluid is low, kill the engine and add more fluid through the dip stick. Then start the engine and check it again.

If a manual T350 tanny, the check plug is located on the left side of the tranaxle case and the drain plug is location the right side. Now, remove the check plug on the left side, add the fluid back through the hole. If you lost a lot you did not catch, add approx what you think you lost, but not too much. If no fluid drips out, add some more fluid through that hole until is does drip out. Make sure the car is on level ground when you do this.

Both auto and manual transmissions use ATF+4 automatic transmission fluid. Others can give more detail if I left anything out.
