Default A/C Belt Squeak

I have been experiencing a strange issue with my A/C, whenever I have the A/C on and I'm driving in the rain, I hear a belt squeak whenever the compressor cycles on. It squeals like the belt is wet for 2-3 seconds, then goes away. The current A/C belt is only about a year old. The A/C is working normally, no issues at all save for the noise.

Ideas? Should I try replacing the belt again? Is it possible I have a splash shield missing or something?

First thing I'd do is check the tension on it. Then look for a missing splash shield. It should be fairly obvious if one's missing.

Cool Re: A/C Belt Squeak

has the tensioner ever been replaced?
It could be a bad belt too even thought it's not that old...

also check that the alternator belt is tight, that one is a manual adjustment.

Mine has been squealing for years. Finally changed it and it stopped for an afternoon and squeaks again. I am missing the splash shield.

The tensioner is spring loaded and "automatic" (no adjustments). My bet is on the splash shield. You can also get water up there if too many fasteners are missing from one of the splash shields and it acts like an air scoop.

When the tensioner pulley goes bad, it sounds like a constant chirp that follows the engine RPM. Fortunately, it's very easy to replace.
