The 4 gauge cables carry a lot more amperage, which is what you want. Buy only copper cables, NOT the copper clad aluminum cables. The finer the wire, the more flexible and longer lasting the cables will be. It is extremely important to connect the cables pos. to pos. and neg. to neg. They make jumper cables which have a built in safety feature to prevent a mistake.

Thanks Guys for all the info... After reading ALL the reply's, I'm going with a set that are 8 gauge, 12ft, 250 amp, and a case that I found on 'Covershield.com' that were $44. reduced to $9.95 w/free shipping. Hopefully I won't need them, but if I do I'll have a set.

You got a good deal. Just a couple of weeks ago, I let a neighbor borrow my 8 gauge cables because the "Walmart" cables he has wouldn't start his Tahoe. I looked at them and they were 18 gauge wire! I asked him why he bought such a small wired cable and he didn't have a clue. After explaining to him what he needed, he threw those in the trash and said he was going to get a better set.
