Default The old girl started falliní Apart

Iíve been cruising along time. As long as my temp gauge stayed even Iím happy. But just in the past few days Iíve had issues.

My front passsnger tire is wore heavily on outer edge. My camber is off.

Finally order camber bolts. Iím going to order front tires too.

Ac was iffy, I just topped it off. You guys see the funky new cans out now?
Hope itís not leaking too bad.

Low beams have not been working. I thought it was my relay on my hid lights.
But the high beams just went out. Got them to come on, not will never shut off.

I have to pull the fuse. I think itís the multifunctional switchís again,

I have a funky sound from front passenger while under way.

I think itís the wheel bearing. Like a harmonic hum??

I bet my axels are close to failing.

186,000 miles

Man this thing is needy

If me, I'd replace both front control arms, both front struts (with new springs and mount plates on them), new wheel bearings and a new multi-function switch. I'd check the tie rod ends but they seem to last for ever on many PT's. This would be followed up with a couple of "newish" tires and an alignment.

My daily drive is a very nice Charger R/T Daytona with 211K miles on it. My Dodge Quadcab truck that I often go out of town on jobs in has 240K. For high mileage vehicles, there comes point where you need to do more than fix things that break. You do best if you do preventive maintenance by replacing items before they break. Yes, there's cost with this. But if you can do it yourself, it's much less than a car payment.

If lucky, I suspect the "free-lunch" period for a PT Cruiser last about 50K after the timing belt replacement which is usually near 100K. After that, preventive maintenance is going to be your friend.

You don't need to replace the wheel bearings in pairs if you don't want to, But they are faily in-expensive if you do the labor yourself.

Local salvage yards usually charge about $20 for a drive shaft if you can find a nice one

I swapped out the multifunction switch.

Replaced my hid relay, now low beams work again too.

I did the struts, tie rod, ball joints AM bushings about 60,000 ago.

Iíll go with new axels if I do it. I want to correct the camber, but if Iím going too replace other parts, I might as well do it before the alignment

Anyways, Iím still cruziní.... no car payment. Happy guy.

Drive it like you stoled it. Eventually it cost more to maintain it then it is worth. Parts get harder to find. The shine starts to dull. I have two. When they wear out, I will donate to the USO.

Unless you have body damage, new lower control arms (or new ball joints & bushings for the existing control arms) and new strut mounting plates should get the camber back into the normal adjustment range if the wheel bearings are good. Offset camber bolts are likely just going to be a band aid for a problem due to excessive wear in some of these other parts.

NOTHING last forever.

A car needs continual TLC; and replacement parts when they wear out.

The secret is to find things as part of preventive maintenance and fix them before they break, then they aren't a surprise and you aren't spending a lot of $ all at once, but spending a small amount over a long period of time.

Still much better than a monthly car payment.

Some just keep driving until something does break, then when fixing that item, one thing leads to another and you end up with a huge repair bill all at one time.
