Default Gen 2 Steering Wheel removal..?

Gen 2 - Can anyone confirm whether you can get the steering wheel off without the use of a puller?

The manual says use a puller, but I don't have anything suitable. Can you loosen the centre bolt, then thump it off like in the old days, or is the puller really needed?

Cheers

These tool hiring places don't exist over here - and it's a PITA to buy something you'll only ever use once - I only want to get it off so I can do a proper job of refurbishing it

Thanks for the tips though - I'll have a look and see if I can bodge something together.

Replaced the steering wheels on the 2002 and 2008 convert to leather covered. Didn't need a puller. Center bolt out and wiggled and lightly banged the sides of the wheel and it popped right off.

You might first try getting it off by pulling while tapping near the center with a rubber or padded mallet as already described.

But if you get an inexpensive harmonic balancer puller instead of just a steering wheel puller, you will likely find uses for it in the future. I don't know if you can get Amazon where you are. But here's an example for $15 USD.

Oh that sucks, I understand in Canada only one part store rents tools and they dont have a great selection, I had to buy a bolt (very hard to find) and a bunch of washers to install my harmonic ballancer.
