Default Car Horn sounds weak.

Any suggestions on what's happening. Seems to be getting lower as time goes on.

In most cases, it's dirt or water. You can access the horn from behind the inner fender liner on the right (passenger) side.

Also, these PT horns are generally weak because Chrysler eliminated the second "high tone" horn in 2003. The original two-horn set on 2001/2002 models play in harmony and sounds much louder. Here's a photo of the high tone horn I added to my 2005 GT from off of a 2001 PT. Together with the low tone horn that comes on later PT's they give a full harmonic tone. You get a honk instead of a beep.

For wiring, I just spliced the two-horn part of the harness into the wires feeding the one original horn. It worked fine.

You could just buy two new ones. Harbor freight has a pair for $9

Salvage yard will just get you an old horn...maybe as bad as yours.
By two Highway/Freeway Blasters; high and low tone!
Awesome sound!

Or you could opt for a Bad Boy air horn, like I did:

This is where I mounted my Bad Boy air horn, onto an L-bracket held in place by the canister mounted onto the frame. Very easy to install, no drilling and it tucks up into the corner of the fender and bumper. You only need to pull back the fender liner to install it.

Bad Boy Model 419
