Check out the absolutely vertical torque and horsepower curves at the 0:20 mark.

Can you imagine the looks on the Camaro and Mustang boys faces when that PT goes blowing by?

With the performance cams, lifter shims and Stage 1 PCM, my 2005 GT would easily pop up over 100 mph on the highway before you even knew it. And that was WAY too fast in a PT Cruiser for my taste.

Also just with my little modest setup, there was way too much torque steer. It might be okay going in a straight line down a track. But for daily driving, it could hurt you if you went to pass someone and pushed too hard on the peddle. It would veer hard toward the ditch. I kind of worried about this when I sold the car. But the biker guy told me his daughter was used to performance cars. I hope so.

In summary, I'm not saying that my GT was all that powerful. It wasn't and that's the point. What I'm saying is that a PT Cruiser with an stock automatic transmission, differential, suspension, steering and brakes doesn't really seem to do that well on the street when you start applying meaningful extra HP for daily driving.

PS: If you read through the SRT4 forums, it becomes obvious that performance camshafts can really wake up these engines and help clear the bottle neck for other mods.

The article says it does that on a stock transmission I doubt it. Every part in the engine and transmission must be massaged or custom made. it's pretty neat to see someone still willing to put that kind of effort into a PT.
