Default Need help! or I'm going to...

2006, Convertible, Touring Turbo.. 100,000 miles'

Seriously thinking about a stick of TNT in its tailpipe, light it and run like Hell...

I've been chasing, on and off, two issues.

First has been an on and off P0440 code. Might go weeks, might go a day or two after resetting the code. I've tried the gas cap and purge solenoid.

The other thing started out as a mere annoyance. The gas gauge will never read full, instead sitting at 3/4 after refueling. Lower end reading seems fine and the amount of gas matches. I ran it way down and it took 14 gallons.

However today the problem has 'devolved'. When I started it today the gauge went to full! and sat there for the better part of a 40 mile drive. Also, the miles to empty display no longer works. The dash passes the built in diagnostics.

I originally suspected a bad ground at G104 since that is a common ground for several systems including the NVLD, Purge solenoid, gas gauge and fuel pump. (Among other things) HOWEVER I took the car out later today and now the gas gauge reads EMPTY and the low fuel indicators are lit! I stopped at a gas station and put 6 gallons in. Still sitting on empty. ARGH! IF memory serves me correctly, a bad fuel gauge ground would present itself as a FULL reading on the gauge. Not empty...Now nothing makes sense!

Maybe the gas gauge is bad? If so I need a way to prove it! (short of dropping the tank and replacing it... )

Please help before something bad happens to my car....

I had a bad ground on gauge and it would go from correct reading to empty and back. Some on may be able to tell you where to look for that ground in engine compartment. I fixed mine at the tank. You may have other grounds going bad, I had to cut off grounds by the battery wheel well and use new eyelets because the thin copper grounds were bad. Soldered the shortened and clean grounds to new eyelets eliminated other problems too.
