Default Whining Down Sound at Shutoff

When shutting off the pt, I hear a whining sound that I thought was the fan slowly turning off, but today I realized its not the fan.

It sounds like an electrical wind-down noise.

Any ideas what that might be??

You only have 4 electrical motors types on a PT Cruiser I am aware of .
The radiator fan motor ,the fuel pump, the blower motor and the window motors .

2001 PT with freshly installed timing belt, right?

Odds are that it's the radiator fan. Check that first. Next would be the HVAC blower motor. Another thing that can make a noise after shut off is a leaking vacuum hose. A partially stopped up cat converter or muffler can cause a pisss sound too under certain conditions.

Sometimes, stuck power door locks will make a buzzing sound when trying to automatically unlock the doors. But this is rare.

Also, make sure your rear window wiper isn't doing something strange and trying to reset when you turn off the key. I doubt it's the fuel pump.

Had that sound occasionally in all my Cruisers.
Most likely the radiator fan when you have been driving at a low RPM.

Do you have a turbo? ( turbo spin-down is sometimes audible...)

My PT sometimes has a whining noise after shutting the ignition off when the fuel tank is rather empty (less than 1/4 left) and the car is parked on an angle. Since I dont observe that when the fuel level is much higher, I assume its the fuel pump. Maybe a sound/video file could help the knowledgable folks to confirm?

Not sure I have ever heard a CAT or vacuum leak make a whining noise?
But I did forget about the wiper "motors"!
