Default Driving light bulb replacement

The bulb failed on the passenger side.
Problem is I cannot rotate the housing to remove the bulb.
Eventually I used so much force I broke the little plastic handle!!

On the driver side the housing rotates easily.

Any ideas for next steps?

Removing the whole headlight unit to get at the housing looks like a major work?

Thanks for any help?

pulling the whole assembly is very easy, (at least on a 05). heat from other lamps in the same housing or even a hairdryer would help then use a bit of wd-40 or the sort if you do pull it out, wrap a bunch of electrical tape on the jaw of your pliers. it will not take much force to break the rubber seal, nor will it take much force to destroy the lamp holder! lightly oil the O-rings when you re-assemble it.

p.s., age, water and heat is whats giving you problems...

Thanks

So I can pull it out without first rotating?
I assumed it was somehow locked if not rotated?

It is an 05 convertible

Appreciate your comments

Rambojoe is correct!
You will have to pull the whole assembly in your case.

I thought it was a big deal too, removing the grill and bumper, and loosening the wheel well liner, until I did it the first time.
Now I plan to do it soon in the future for a headlight mod.

Mine were stuck as well. I was upgrading the bulbs to brighter ones.
Probably the original bulbs, and 15 years of dryness and weathering in the CA desert.
**SOOOOO....remember to remove both bulb housings and lubricate a little, replacing before you reinstall the headlight.

but to be clear- the bumper or grill doesn't need to be touched...

its just the 4 or 5 10mm bolts in the wheel well. (err if I remember...)
as far as wire slack- I cant remember...

Yes, unless he can't get the bulb out and has to remove the whole headlight assembly.

Finally got around to removing the headlight and the gave the Driving light bulb holder some easing fluid and could then remove it and fit a new bulb, see foto

Only problem was there are two captive bolts under the headlamp that hold the front facia and one of them was no longer captive so its nut just revolved without releasing.

Luckily the fascia is flexible enough that I could remove the headlamp but I doubt I can get it back in so I will need to drill out the faulty bolt unless you have a better idea?
