either one of those look like it can do the job for a DIY.

What I use and carry with me when I drive anything is the Harbor Freight Cen-Tech Scan tool.

Haynes repair manuals are just okay. They leave out a LOT of stuff. The best thing for anyone that owns and is going to keep a PT is a set of factory service manuals. IF you can find them. Haynes only covers the basic repairs that most back yard mechanics (like me) can do themselves.

OBD2 book by Hynes, not many choises out there around $9.00.
Pt cruiser repair manual We use written by CHILTON,plus have service manual online.
Have We been able to get info. needed from manual,
partial answer is, yes.
Does it go into minute details, yes and no. All depends on the DYI needs/time/ability.
A bit of Tube,a bit reading, correct tools help Us fixing our problem. We spent about 8 hours total to replace 4 parts and clean
one.

One part almost took 3 Hours to replace, EGR valve/modulator,
was fighting/biting Us from removal to installing.
If needed advice how it was done, will share what/how.

Best regards.

Jack.
