Default My Wife's PT Cruiser has gremlins

Hello, the Check Engine light is coming on almost every time she starts the car, even though diagnostics show nothing wrong. Half the time the speedometer doesn't register unless she stops and restarts the car. Has anyone else had these problems and found out the cause? Oh but there's more. If she stops her car on a hot day, like to shop, and comes out to restart, it will not restart until the engine is allowed to cool down for several minutes. Help!

Most of this can be traced to the ignition switch or worn key. Or even the connector in the steering column for the ignition.

Other members have found the PCM to be the problem. Try using a heat gun to warm up the PCM and see if it does the symptoms you are getting. In the meantime try opening up the hood to cool off the computer after driving and park the PT Cruiser each time and see if that helps.

By any chance did you just buy a new CAT for it? Some new CAT gets hotter than the original one.

Does it have squares around the PRNDL on the dash when it won't start?
