I can open the driver's door from the outside but not from the inside. How do I remove the inside panel so I can repair whatever has gone wrong. Help will be appreciated as at 6' & 200 pounds (and 70 years) I'm getting tired of climbing over the gear shift to open it.
Thank you! RVC

Remove the two Torx screws holding the arm rest. Pull off the triangular plastic trim at the forward edge of the window. Remove the exposed screw and the other (2-3) screws visible around the edge of the panel. The panel can now be pulled free from the door. It is held by spring clips. I usually start near the removed plastic trim, using my fingers. You can use a trim stick tool designed for the purpose.
The clips will be tight if this panel has never been removed. The top edge of the panel hooks over the top of door so the panel needs to be lifted upward to fully remove, after all the clips have been freed from the door frame. As you are removing the panel, you will need to release the electrical connectors for the speaker, the power windows and locks and release the door latch rod from the inside door handle. This where you will likely find your problem. |

I can run over there and help you if need be, Bro. Just let me know. I'm not busy today and as long as the rain holds off, I'd be happy to lend a hand. It's not that difficult and you and I are about the same size. I'm just 7 years your junior! Sounds like a linkage clip has come loose or broken. And you don't need to climb over the shifter and console, just roll down the window and open the door.

Thanks for the first two responses and then those that followed later.
Sounds like you folk know your way around and from here I imagine I can make my way. I appreciate your offer, Chuzz, but we would probably have too many hands in the way. Next time I pull my engine, though, I'll give you a call. As far as rolling the window down I forgot to mention that doesn't work either. PTPRICE'S link looks really good and with them I reckon we can get through with it. I appreciate all your input and posts. RVC

Damn!
Considering how often I had removed the four door cards in my 2004 5-speed PT, I am surprised that I forgot about the screw in the inner door-handle. ![]() |
