Default paint and noise question... new to forum

Hey great forum...love the pix!

2 questions... I have a 2001 patriot blue PT, got it used, and the clear coat has started coming off the hood! anyone else have this problem???

2nd, what causes the "thunk thunk" sound in the rear when I go over bumps?

I've had my PT since feb 03, i love it... starting to get the itch to start working on it.

thanks!

Howdy and Welcome to the Forum! If you do a search on this forum
for "clear coat" I believe you will find out that Chrysler/Dodge
in general uses a really thin clear coat paint layer - a lot of us
have had similar problems. Not sure what to do for it, but do a search here and you should get more info that way. Plus, I am sure others will be responding to your questions as well.
As far as the thumping sound... could be your exhaust, or since your car is used, the spare tire may not be seated properly in it's storage area.

You will get more answers if you continue to hang around here!
This place rocks!

Welcome ijoe.[^] I can't comment on the paint but I had a clunk in the trunk sound that turned out to be a loose spare tire.

Good luck and good Cruzin

thanks for the replies... a loose spare tire, guess that should be the first thing i check, that would be cool if that's all it was.

and i will search the forum!

[xx(] When I worked for Sears auto, we had a customer come in a week after we put shocks on his car. He was getting a 'thump' when he turned. We checked the shocks, exhaust, spare tire etc. could not find what was causing 'thump' turned out to be his 16lb bowling ball rolling around in the trunk! D'oh!!!!!

Welcome to this forum,You never said if your Cruiser was lowered.
when I lowered mine and put on new exhaust I had a clumk when
I went over bumps. It came from the exhaust where it goes over the axle.

For the paint - try a clay bar - it'll take off the clear coat that is loose, and ought to "blend" the rest.

The thunk - if it isn't spare, try rear shocks - loosen & then reitghten - sometimes bushings aren't right.

thanks for the continued tips... I've not had time or a sunny day to climb under the PT and check out the rear...

my PT is not lowered, its pretty much stock. I'ved only added 5 spoke Mopar rims and the handy under the seat drawer! When I'm feeling really daring I throw the bra on the front and stick my magnetic flames on the sides... hehe... [8D]

I'd really like to replace my hood, even bought one on ebay (real bad experience, it was trashed in delivery!!!)

thanks again
